INDIGO STITCHED SHIBORI

September 25th - 30th, 2022

ACTIVITY

In this special four-day workshop, artist Teresa Misagal will guide students through stitching, tying, folding, and binding fabric before its journey into the indigo vat. When the cloth emerges from the indigo, the resist materials are removed, and a pattern emerges — unaltered by the dye and surrounded by deep blue. Teresa’s lessons will equip students to execute their creative visions for projects large and small.

CUISINE

Private dining experiences will be curated by our hosts at Crow’s Nest Farm, as well as other well-known chefs, restaurants and farms in the area. Immersion into the lively farm-to-table culture of coastal Maine is not to be missed!

COMMUNAL STITCHING

Each evening we will gather for a beautiful dinner feast, and embroider on a communal tablecloth. This project will bring us together at the end of the day — allowing for continued stitching practice and conversation, and connecting us to the part of the craft which historically took place side by side. The finished cloth is an embroidered recording of this retreat. We look forward to your addition to our legacy cloth!

There will also be other evening opportunities for sitting and stitching, on personal projects, or in preparation for the next studio session — all with your newfound friends!

All materials for the course will be provided. A list of suggestions for additional or alternative supplies will be emailed prior to the retreat. But all one need bring is an open mind, and willingness to try new things in a beautiful place, amongst like-minded friends.
